This is a great list. It’s got everything from Ivan Drago destroying Apollo Creed to Cobra Kai whooping on Daniel LaRusso (Reseda is a tough town).
Unfortunately no one was filming when I beat up Bobby Jenkins, the star high school quarterback because he was disrespecting my woman. Imagine the last scene of Lionheart, and you’ll get a sense of my prowess:

Best of the Web 1/20/07, Norman Mailer’s new novel |

Norman Mailer, the great American writer, has a new book releasing this week called “The Castle in the Forest.” I just read the review the New York Times, which loved it.
It tells the story of a young Adolf Hitler told through the eyes of a devil. (Yes, that’s what it’s really about.)
Personally whenever a great author writes a new book, I think it’s a cause for celebration. However, I live in a country where Dan Brown and James Patterson are continually on the bestseller list, so I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority. That’s not really a stuffy indictment of our culture, more a reflection of my own snobbishness…

What $1.2 Trillion Can Buy |

There was an great story in the New York Times today called “What 1.2 Trillion Can Buy.” $1.2 Trillion just happens to be the cost of the Iraq war. (Who knew the times was such a liberal rag?) Here’s a tidbit:
“For starters, $1.2 trillion would pay for an unprecedented public health campaign — a doubling of cancer research funding, treatment for every American whose diabetes or heart disease is now going unmanaged and a global immunization campaign to save millions of children’s lives.
Combined, the cost of running those programs for a decade wouldn’t use up even half our money pot. So we could then turn to poverty and education, starting with universal preschool for every 3- and 4-year-old child across the country. The city of New Orleans could also receive a huge increase in reconstruction funds.”
That’s a lot of good stuff. Not exactly how I would spend the money– think lots of Fanta and swimming in a big pile of money a la Scrooge McDuck– but still you have to admire the story’s sentiments…

Best of the Web 1/17/07, Marilyn Manson is boning Evan Rachel Wood |

Things I find gross:
Yes apparently the two are dating now, and the thought makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little. Mostly because Evan Rachel looks so damn innocent. And Marilyn Manson looks like Beelzebub’s minion.

Paula Abdul is a drunk |

Paula Abdul has a special place a in my heart. The sight of her boobs in her “Promise of a New Day” video in 1991 was my first moment of sexual awareness.
So it was some sadness that I show this video of her drunk or high.
But then again, my sadistic side, the side that takes joy in the pain of other people, can’t stop laughing right now…
